#SecondLifeChallenge – Let’s Chat Over Some Coffee

Let's Chat Over Some Coffee | Mine & Yours

So it has been several years since I have participated in a Strawberry Singh weekly challenge (#SecondLifeChallenge). This is a great one to dive back into since I’d be curious how differently it might be in the next year to come. To check out Berry’s challenge, go here.

1. How long have you been blogging or vlogging about Second Life?
In terms of consistency, I’ve been actively blogging since July 2017. So I guess you can say I am a baby blogger. lol what’s funny is, I created a previous blog back in 2016 – spent weeks coding it to look just the way I liked it and getting all set up on its own host with its own domain (go big or go home, right?), but only ended up doing a small handful of blogs before I became demotivated. The lack of drive was not blog-related, however, and was more about things that were happening around me in my SL/RL that kept me down. I am in a much better place now though with an amazing and supportive girlfriend (who has been blogging for YEARS and has such a fantastic work/blog ethic that inspires me) and two loving daughters who make being an SL dad so utterly enjoyable.

2. Why did you start blogging or vlogging?
I like making realistic scenes to celebrate whatever I am featuring, and capturing a specific moment that tells a story. It allows me to be creative in the story of what I want to present in an image. In a sense, it is a sense of being in control despite the fact that I am allowing my creativity to run wild. The pictures I take are personal, relating to me as a person in some way. There has to be some significance behind the blog for me to take the time to create a scene, take a picture, edit it, and then write about it. And time, for me, has always been a precious commodity.

3. How many times a week/month do you post?
I probably post 2 blogs a month right now, but the goal is to do at least one post a week. As stated in the previous section, time is limited for me. I am always making a deliberate choice what to be spending my time on, taking into account the cost of time spent vs the benefit of it. So, when I do post a blog, it’ll definitely be of quality and of significance.

4. Do you keep track of how many hits or subscribers you have?
No, not at this early time and stage.

5. Which electronic devices do you use to blog/vlog with?
My desktop.

6. Do you monetize your blog or vlogs? If so, do you mind sharing how much you make approximately? (You don’t have to answer the second question)
No, I do not.

7a. What has Second life blogging or vlogging taught you?
That sometimes I am too ambitious for my own good/limitations/time restraints lol. I’d have this big ideal and once I start executing it all out, I realize that it’s taking more time than I can realistically commit too. Blogging is still teaching me that, but I am learning as I go 🙂 Blogging has definitely helped improve the way I take pictures and edit them, making the final product much more rewarding.

7b. (A spin off from #7 and my own question) What do you hope Second Life blogging or vlogging will teach you?
I do know that I spend probably triple the time Livvy takes to put out a blog, as she is seasoned and experienced, while I am still relatively new. I am hoping that with more practice, blogging becomes a lot more intuitive for me, and that with a practiced hand, I can create scenes faster, take pictures faster, and edit them faster. Of course, like all bloggers, I’d like to constantly get better at editing photos in Photoshop as well.

8. Do you feel like Second Life blogging or vlogging takes away from your real life?
It does not because I do not let it. My RL will always come first because that is where my past, present, and future is. Every weekday, I spend 1.5 hours driving to work (that is California traffic for you, but I do live 50 miles away from work so I guess that doesn’t help either lol), work 8-9 hours, drive back home for another 1.5 hours, take care of some house stuff, make dinner, and then plop into SL for two hours to spend with the SL family before going to bed. I am able to spend more time in SL on the weekends, usually Sunday as that is my relax day while Saturday is my errands and chores day. With that time, I can work on blogging a bit when I am not doing family SL time. I think it goes without saying that making sure my girlfriend and kiddos are happy first comes before blogging.

9. Do you have a mission statement for your blog or vlog, if so, what is it?
It’s a blog I share with my girlfriend, Livvy. And really, the blog is a published platform for us to just express ourselves whether it is just being creative, sharing an experience, or celebrating an awesome product. Livvy and I are two different kinds of bloggers which makes our blog rather unique and comprehensive. She likes showcasing the fashion, including everything from hair, accessories, clothing, shoes, and even the pose. I, on the other hand, like decor and events (not really shopping events but more interative events such as hunts). Sorry, gentlemen, but men’s fashion does not usually excite me. You can ask the girlfriend.. I am mostly shirtless and barefoot, changing only my pants. If not that, then I’m dressed up in some sort of suit. I am strange, I know.

10. Share your top 3 tips for new bloggers/vloggers.
I am new as it is lol. But here’s some tips anyway.

3. Establish a realistic blog schedule in regards to its frequency.
2. Engage, interact, and support people in the SL community or in out of world social platforms like Facebook, Plurk, and Flickr.
1. Have fun with your blog and be proud of your creation.

Bonus Question:

What kind of blogger/vlogger are you?
I’m the type of blogger that likes to highlight or feature a specific creation or event. Whatever it is I am featuring, it’s gotta be the hero of the image/blog. I try to steer away from creating product mosaics that clump a lot of creations into a single image. Instead, I’ll specifically choose select supporting products that can help complement the hero of the image/blog. I also like to tell a story through my blog, as each photo I post has special meaning behind them. There’s always an inspiration behind it that motivates me to put the time and effort into posting, so I like writing it out in the blog post.
