The MadPea Summer Hunt is coming to an end on June 27th (today), and what a blast I had! I’ve got some awesome sims to share with you! The Summer Hunt is always my favorite hunt MadPea hosts because: 1) Summer is always so colorful and lively, making it a fun time for all sorts of activities, 2) A lot of the sims are beautifully and enjoyably summer themed, 3) the prizes are always awesome quality and you can use them all season long.
This time around, there were a lot of great sims to explore. Usually hunts are filled with stores, but this time, I came across a lot more landscaped areas (private residences, communities, public photographic sims) than usual! I do hope this trend continues as I thoroughly enjoyed snapping pictures of my experience.
My MadPea Summer Hunt Adventure
Day 1 – The North Shore at Fairhaven
I was so happy to have come across The North Shore at Fairhaven. Above ground there is a beautiful, beachy island scene with surfing and plenty of places to explore. Below ground under sea level was so exciting for me. I absolutely love sims like these where there is an appreciation for aquatic life and the magical world the sea holds. The North Shore was a visual treat for me and I always loved coming back here for some shell hunting. This sim was actually inspired by the real The North Shore in Oahu which is one of the biggest surfing mecca in the world. I am so glad they brought this in world for all to appreciate the many gifts an island gives.
Day 2 – Fairhaven
Right next to The North Shore is the main area – Fairhaven. An adult beach with a tropical jungle, Fairhaven has many small intimate areas as well as big surf waves to enjoy. Don’t have a surfboard? Don’t worry! There are rezzers all along the island to easily pick up a board and catch some waves. On the ground is the island fun while up in the sky is the actual city of Fairhaven. This rundown city has definitely seen its better days, but is a great spot to explore or take pictures.
Day 3 – Aquila III Research Station
The Aquila III Research Station is quite an interesting place to explore! The land has it’s intrigue and wonder to explore while out in the open is a pleasant tropical sim for some swimming or even surfing! As you can see in my snapshot, I discovered a very interesting wonder while there hunting!
Day 4 – Calypso Bay
The Silent Cove at Calypso Bay was a fun lil’ pirate cove hosted by fellow Peas: Mathias and Sajiah. Definitely just a popup spot for the hunt while it lasted, but I always looked forward to hunting at this little treasure spot with its strategic seashell placements and the overall lighthearted ambiance.
Day 5 – Ethereal Sanctuary
Ethereal Sanctuary is a beautiful, peaceful escape for everyone – dreamers, romantics, dancers, contemplators, explorers alike! Whatever it is you seek, this quiet place can be that bit of heaven you require. There are tons of spots to discover and enjoy here on the island. There is likely something for everyone.
Day 6 – Pegasoi
The Ippos Collective is a group of four fantasy inspired sims that are Rez-Friendly for all to enjoy and capture photos. This wonderous place is where some call home, enjoy the magic that surrounds them (rentable plots available). Each sim has its own charm. For the hunt, I was at Pegasoi which is a fantasy themed, aimed to really support the creative side of individuals. The other sims in the colllective are: Ippos (Lush Island), Nymphai (the Town Square, and Sylpha (Small islands and lots of water).
Day 7 – The Upside Down Wonderland Garden
Wonderland Gardens was a popup maze experience hosted by Kyle Beckett (a MadPea game designer) for MadPea hunters to enjoy (or rip their hairs out). To illustrate why this experience may have been maddening, I took a picture of how I saw things while trying to escape the maze. Everything was upside down!! This little obstacle course was an amusing and entertaining way to collect shells. I definitely appreciate this challenge, as all MadPea fans can agree. It’s just in our nature!
And that wraps up my MadPea Summer Hunt 2018 traveling adventure! It was a lot of fun for me, and I absolutely loved taking these snapshots whenever I saw something I wanted to capture in the moment. I’d love to see or hear what your favorite sims were!
My Personal Feedback Regarding the Hunt:
1. Awesome Sim Participation!
I’d have to say that the main motivator for me in doing these hunts is to explore the noncommercial part of SL more. This time’s hunt really did not disappoint because there was not once during my entire hunting period that I was rolling my eyes at another store to walk through. I felt like there was a great balance of commercial properties vs. noncommercial properties. Because of the great blend, it made this hunt an enjoyable breeze to run through.
2. LET THEM EAT … Points?
I think it is safe to say that competitive cash is a thing of the past, sadly. No more Top 5 overall hunter cash award and no more daily cash reward for the Top 3 hunters. Instead points for the daily top 5 hunters per team were given out.
1000 Points to 1st place
750 Points to 2nd place
500 Points to 3rd place
250 Points to 4th place
100 Points to 5th place
3. Radar \o/
Yes! Thank you! Radar UI has been changed and this once negative talking point is now a positive! This compact radar definitely made hunting so much sweeter by allowing hunters to minimize/expand certain trays like the hunt counter and the prize carousel.
- Favorite Button – This functions a voting button to vote for your favorite sims. The top 10 sims selected by all hunters so far are placed here on their website. Initially, I thought it would also store locations of your (personal) favorite sims, eliminating the need to create Landmarks. Unfortunately, that function does not exist (yet!).
- Counter that tracks each type of hunt item collected – This is more to tack and obtain achievements for the more hardcore MadPea players wanting to rank in the MadPea Player Portal. Check your standings here.
- Prize Carousel – Shows all the unlocked prizes, allowing scrolling to see more of the unlocked prizes besides just the most recent one.
Possible Add-ons for Future Radars:
- Favorite Button – Would love if the HUD could store a hunter’s personal favorite sims so they can come back to the sim at the click of a button.
- Hunt HUD Radar size – Now that the radar is nicely compact, a scaleable option would be nice too. Maybe it is too small for some people now. Maybe it is too big for others on their screen.
4. Awesome Prizes!
I always love the prizes for the Summer Hunt. I felt like there was something for everyone. Even if all of the prizes did not appeal to you, I am sure at least one of them would have been a great addition to your avi or home (especially during the summer season!). If you haven’t already, check out my other posts here and here to see what some of the MadPea Summer Hunt prizes are. All prizes are also showcased on the MadPea Summer Hunt Website as well as their Facebook page.
Thank you to MadPea for putting on a wonderful hunt for us all to participate in, making this hot summer season so much more enjoyable! Also, big thank you to all the sim location participants who placed out seashells for us all to gather. This Summer hunt would not have been successful without your generosity!
